A solid-state drive (SSD) is a media which uses flash modules in order to store information. The solid-state drives are still relatively new and more pricey compared to standard hard disk drives (HDD), yet they are considerably faster, so they are ordinarily used for Operating Systems and apps on both home computer systems and hosting servers. An SSD is recommended because it doesn't have spinning disks that restrict its speed and may even cause overheating like it could happen with an HDD. A large number of companies employ SSDs for caching purposes, so all website content that is accessed more often will be kept on such drives, while all the other content will be stored on regular HDDs. The main reason to use such a setup is to balance the cost and overall performance of their web hosting platform and to reduce the load on the HDDs resulting from numerous reading and writing processes.
SSD with Data Caching in Hosting
Our state-of-the-art cloud Internet hosting platform uses solely SSD drives, so if you get any of our hosting plans, you'll take full advantage of the speed that these drives provide. We no longer use hard disk drives, so your files, databases and email messages will all load from ultra fast SSDs. For even improved performance, we also use caching solid-state drives. A group of drives are used by our system for each file that is accessed more frequently and the data on these drives is dynamically updated to make sure that all the traffic-intensive files load from them. In this way, the load on the main drives is reduced, so we can provide exceptional performance for all types of sites no matter how many times they are accessed and prevent a situation where some sites are affected by too many reading and writing processes created by others. This setup also improves the lifespan of the primary drives and reduces the possibility of disk failure.
